Oscar Wilde

I’m not sure if you’ve crushed on Oscar yet, but he definitely deserves a spot. :) I’ve always loved him since I was small, and thought he was a fascinating, often misunderstood, terribly tragic figure. So often I see him being remembered for the end of his life — being imprisoned for homosexuality and succumbing to misery and disease. 

But he was so vibrant in his younger years; witty, vivacious, and with a love of life. He’s often been regarded as cynical, but I always thought of his cynicism as his satirical nature at work. He saw cynicism in the world around him and wanted to show it to others (naturally, tongue-in-cheek).

Besides being a noted satirist, author, and essayist, Oscar was something of a philosopher. 

“America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.”

No arguments here, Oscar.

I think I make it pretty clear in my video today that I don’t understand why we’re even talking about this. I don’t understand the arguments of people who oppose gay marriage, and I’m usually pretty good at understanding people’s viewpoints.

The arguments are so silly…

I wouldn’t feel right getting married in america as a heterosexual man, while my brother and best friend can’t marry the people they love.
